With an educational background in Art History and Comparative Arts and Cultures, Eduardo Laia is also a postgraduate in Curation and Contemporary Art. He regularly takes part in high-profile cultural and artistic projects, frequently being requested to join specialist teams. Over the last few years he has been solicited by Museums and Cultural Institutions, regarding the implementation of curatorial projects, the preparation of technical reports, or the conduction of research activities. He also holds the national mint's (INCM) official title as an Appraiser of Items with Precious Metals and Gemology Materials, and he is a member of DGArtes Specialists and Consultants Pool.

The identification and inventory of the collection of a famous and reputable hotel on the Portuguese coast has been carried out. A beautiful acquis comprised of designer furniture, decorative arts, and an interesting art collection, mostly from the second wave of Portuguese Modernists.

 


Training programme for welcoming teams

 Following extensive research and content development, a training program for reception and welcoming teams was designed and implemented. 

A thrilling discovery! A fine quality painting, attributable to the circle of 17th century Dutch old master Pieter de Hooch (1629-1684), has been identified in a private collection. 

 An authority from the national security forces requested the identification and appraisal of a large set of jewellery items, originating from a seizure linked to illicit activities. The process involved identifying precious metals, gemstones and manufacturers. 


Inventorying and evaluation of the collection of a Lisbon Palace, requested by the Embassy of a European country, specifically for insurance purposes. More than 1000 works of art, antiques and furniture from different countries were appreciated and evaluated, with a special focus on French, Neoclassical and Continental art.

 One of the latest projects was the astounding Biester Palace, a Romanticist building from the last quarter of the 19th century, located in the heart of UNESCO's world heritage village of Sintra. A full historical and artistic reconstitution of the place and its surroundings was requested, targeting the identification and development of contents for the visitor's experience. The monument opened its doors to the public in April 2022, after more than 130 years from its original construction.    


One of the great museums in Europe was in need of obtaining a technical assessment regarding the import of an important set of miniaturist paintings, with dates ranging between the 16th and 19th centuries. An historical and artistic contextualization was performed based on the artworks' materiality, in order to enable their circulation and simultaneously preserving their integrity, strictly observing contemporary best practices in conservation.
